3 advisers join meeting on infrastructural development of Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, April 7, 2025 (BSS) - A number of initiatives and development projects, including building a medical college, have been taken at a meeting held today at Munshiganj with the presence of three advisers of the interim government.
 
Home and Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki joined the meeting at the district administration's conference room.

During the meeting, several key-decisions were taken for the development of the district, including establishment of a government medical college in the district, repair and construction of various roads, and the development of the Kathakhali canal flowing through the district's urban areas.

Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Economic Relations Division Secretary Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary to Local Government Division Mohammad Nijam Uddin, Secretary to Housing and Public Works Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Secretary to Economic Division Dr. Mohammad Khairuzzaman Majumder, and Cultural Affairs Secretary (Routine Affairs) Mohammad Mofidur Rahman attended the meeting with Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Fatema Tul Jannat in the chair.

Besides, Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) Major General Abdul Kayum Molla, Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Abu Taher Mohammad Jaber, Bangladesh Police Additional IGP Golam Rasul and LGED Chief Engineer Mohammad Abdur Rashid were also present in the meeting.
 
During the meeting, decisions were also taken regarding the renovation of Munshiganj Municipality Bhaban, which was damaged during the July revolution and restoration of the dilapidated Shilpakala Academy of the district.

In the meeting, a travel book titled ‘Protnokotha’, compiled by Additional District Commissioner (Revenue) Sharif Ullah under the district commissioner’s initiative, which highlights the archaeological and tourist sites across Munshiganj's six upazilas, was also unveiled.

Talking to media after the meeting, Home and Agriculture Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “We have discussed various developmental issues of the district today. We have had discussions with senior officials from the relevant departments on how to address various issues of the district.” 

“The people of Munshiganj have long demanded the establishment of a medical college here. We will begin the work to set up the medical college, initially on the current General Hospital site and the surrounding area,” he said.

He also said the construction of the Mollarhat Bridge on the Betka-Taghariya Road will be completed soon and a cold storage facility for potato seeds will be built in Munshiganj's Tongibari area. 

Work will also begin to expand the Munshiganj-Shreenagar road to four lanes, and discussions are on to construct a bridge over the Fuldi River in Gojaria, he added.

Besides, the home adviser announced that funding would be allocated for the development of the historic Idrakpur Fort, an important archaeological site in the district.
