Trial of July-Aug crimes against humanity to be held in ICT: Tajul

DHAKA, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - The Chief Prosecutor of International Crimes 
Tribunal (ICT) Muhammad Tajul Islam today said trial of incidents of crimes 
against humanity committed during July-August mass uprising will be held at 
the tribunal.

"The ICT will hold the trial of genocides and crimes against humanity 
committed during the July-August mass uprising. If the International Criminal 
Court (ICC) wants to provide any technical support, we will take it," he said 
while replying to a question of a newsman on the tribunal premises today.

Reiterating prosecution's commitment to bring the July-August criminals to 
justice, the ICT chief prosecutor further said Bangladesh is very much able 
and committed to hold the trial of crimes against humanity.

"Those crimes had taken place in Bangladesh, many accused are still in the 
country, some are in neighboring countries, and witnesses are also here. So 
it is very natural that the trial will be held in Bangladesh court. Trial of 
any crime goes to ICC when any state is unable or not interested to hold 
trial over that. Both these conditions are not applicable for Bangladesh," he 
added.
