DHAKA, April 09, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced plans to deploy 5,000 volunteers to raise public awareness about mosquito control in an effort to prevent the spread of dengue during the upcoming monsoon season.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz revealed the initiative during a public hearing yesterday afternoon at the Uttara Community Center, attended by residents from all wards under DNCC Zone-01.

"These volunteers will visit every neighborhood within the DNCC area to educate people on effective dengue prevention methods," said Ejaz.

"Additionally, supervision of mosquito control workers will be intensified to ensure the regular spraying of repellents, he added."

He also warned of taking immediate action if any worker found to be negligent in their duties.

The administrator said that discussions are ongoing regarding the involvement of the Bangladesh Army to oversee the activities of mosquito control workers for enhanced accountability.

Additionally, representatives from various local societies across the city will be included in the initiative to strengthen community involvement.

DNCC sources informed that public hearings like this one will be held in all ten DNCC regions in sequence, starting with Region-1. Citizens directly talk to the DNCC Administrator and ask questions about their complaints, suggestions, and services.

Addressing city dwellers, the DNCC Administrator urged all residents to keep their surroundings clean and take part in the collective effort to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury and other senior DNCC officials were present at the hearing.

The event was also participated by school and college teachers from Wards 1 and 17, mosque imams, market committee leaders, youth and student representatives and other local dignitaries.
