DHAKA, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - The ICT today allowed its probe body's plea to interrogate former inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hauque, former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Miah and the then assistant commissioner (AC) of DMP's Mirpur Zone Jasim Uddin Mollah in a case lodged over alleged staged raid of law enforcers, where nine people were gunned down.

The three-judge panel led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution. The tribunal allowed the three accused to be interrogated for one day each on April 21, 22, and 23.

The ICT on March 24, 2025, showed the three arrested in the case. It set May 7 for submitting probe report in the case.

Different units of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at a house locally known as "Jahajbari", named for its ship-like structure, on July 26, 2016. Later, allegations surfaced claiming that the raid was staged and those killed - who were branded as militants - had no ties to militancy. It was further alleged that they had been in police custody for long and were gunned down from close range.

The then IGP AKM Shahidul Hauque later went to the scene and said the dead people were members of banned militant outfit Neo-Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh or Neo-JMB.
