Illegal shops evicted on footpaths at Airport area

DHAKA (North), April 10, 2025 (BSS) - In a coordinated drive, Joint forces evicted 70 illegal shops clearing footpaths in the capital's Airport Roundabout area yesterday.

The drive led, by the Special Judicial Magistrate Md Asaduzzaman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), included personnel from Uttara Division Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Army.

"The drive has been conducted to reduce traffic congestion on the highway, prevent pickpockets and robberies . . . 70 different types of illegal structures were evicted in the operation," Uttara Division Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Md Mohidul Islam told BSS today. 

He said there is no scope for setting up shops on both sides of the highway. If anyone tries to set up illegal shops, legal action will be taken immediately.

"We initially persuaded the shopkeepers to leave no one was arrested or fined in this drive," he added.
