Murder case filed against ex-education minister, AL lawmakers in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, April 10, 2025 (BSS) - A case has been filed with Double Mooring Thana here on Wednesday in connection with the killing of Md Yousuf, a factory worker who was shot dead on August 5 last year. 

Md Younus, 37, father of the deceased, lodged the case accusing 325 people, including former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former Awami League lawmaker M A Latif and Mohiuddin Bacchu.

Among the 325 accused, the names of 25 individuals were specifically mentioned, while the rest were listed as unknown. 

Those named in the case include former CCC mayor and general secretary of city unit AL A.J.M Nasir Uddin, former CCC Councilors- Morshed Akhter Chowdhury, Wasim Uddin Chowdhury, Toufiq Ahmed Chowdhury, , Zafar Alam Chowdhury, Abdus Sabur Liton, former city unit general secretary banned Chattra League Nurul Azim Roni, Awami League leader Didarul Alam Masum Arshadul Alam Bachchu and former president of Double Mooring Thana Chattra League Mostafa Kamal Tipu.

According to the case statement, Md Yousuf was the first son of his father's second wife. He had been working at an ice factory in Jharnapara, located on Ice Factory Road in the city. 

On the evening of August 5, Yousuf was en route to Dewanhat area to supply ice to various shops when he was fatally shot.
 
Elder sister of Yusuf's wife informed the family members that Yusuf Yousuf had been shot and later succumbed to his injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

The case alleges that on the orders of the first four accused, in collaboration with other armed individuals, an indiscriminate attack was carried out on a jubilant crowd at Dewanhat intersection on the evening of August 5, during which Yousuf was shot.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Double Mooring Police Station, Kazi Rafiqul Islam, confirmed the filing of the case and stated that an investigation will be conducted, with legal action to follow based on the findings.
