Paddy procurement starts on April 24

SUNAMGANJ, April 10, 2025 (BSS) - Agriculture and Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said the government will begin purchasing paddy from April 24.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters after inaugurating the harvest of paddy in the field of farmer Ali Hossain of Gobindupur village under Sunamganj Sadar Upazila.

In response to farmers' demands, the adviser said that a paved road will be constructed inside Dekhar Haor to help farmers transport harvested and threshed paddy more easily.

Additionally, sluice gates will be constructed, and two power pumps will be installed in suitable locations across the haor to address water-logging issues.

He also instructed the relevant authorities to repair the Gazaria rubber dam to protect the Boro paddy of Karchar Haor from early flooding.

Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi, Additional Director of the Sylhet Department of Agricultural Extension Bimal Chandra Som, Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Miah, Superintendent of Police Tofail Ahmed, and Deputy Director of the Sunamganj Department of Agricultural Extension Mustafa Iqbal Azad, among others, were present on the occasion.

Earlier, the adviser visited Shantiganj Police Station.
