Dhaka, Algiers for 'joint working group' to enhance energy cooperation

DHAKA, April 14, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh and Algeria today put emphasis on the prospects and enhanced cooperation in the energy sector, including establishment of a joint working group and possibility of high-level ministerial visits.

The discussion took place when Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani paid a courtesy call on Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin at the foreign ministry here, said an official press release.
 
During the meeting, the two dignitaries reviewed outcomes of the recent Bilateral Consultations held in Algiers on February 4, 2025 and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepening the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Algeria.

Both the sides put emphasis on the importance of strengthening economic ties through increased business-to-business interactions, proposing virtual meetings, exchange of business delegations and participation in trade fairs in both the countries.

They also acknowledged the potential for expanded collaboration in the fields of agriculture, education, scientific research, air connectivity, media, sports and culture.
 
They hoped over the progress made on sectoral Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and both the sides agreed to expedite their finalization.

The meeting further addressed issues related to investment promotion, the removal of trade barriers and the consideration of agreements on investment protection and avoidance of double taxation.

The meeting concluded on a positive and constructive note, with both the parties agreeing to maintain regular dialogue and work closely towards further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
