DHAKA, April 22, 2025 (BSS) – The Press Information Department (PID) of the government today binned claims in social media that the 1971 Martyred Intellectual Memorial at Mirpur was being demolished, calling the reports were spread with an evil motive.

“This is a rumour,” said a PID statement adding that, as a matter of fact, the Public Works Department was carrying out renovation works at the site.

The PID said the site was under the purview of Dhaka North City Corporation and adjacent to Darussalam police station while both the offices rejected the social media claims as well.

“It is not true that the memorial which stands as a symbol of remembrance is being demolished,” the statement said.
