DHAKA, April 22, 2025 (BSS) – National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Dr Ali Riaz on Tuesday said the ongoing talks between the political parties and the Commission are in progress following directives of Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.

“The discussions held with political parties so far have been regularly reported to the Commission's Chairman and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. He is providing guidelines to this end,” he said.

Professor Riaz made the remarks prior to the third-round of talks held with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital today.

Commission Members- Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Safar Raj Hossain and the Chief Advisor's Special Assistant Monir Haider were present in the discussion.

Professor Ali Riaz said, “There are several recommendations from the first phase of talks with BNP that align with the views of the National Consensus Commission or the relevant bodies. There are also differences of opinion on some issues.”

BNP has informed that they will discuss the issues of disagreement with their policymakers and update the commission accordingly, he said.

Ali Riaz said, “We are at a historic juncture. Final decisions regarding the recommendations cannot be made solely at this table, as the political parties' policymakers will undoubtedly play a critical role in finalizing those decisions.”

The BNP delegation, led by Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, included BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Ismail Jabiullah, Executive Committee member Advocate Ruhul Quddus Kajal and former Secretary Abu Mohammad Moniruzzaman.
