BRUR to commemorate martyr Abu Sayeed tomorrow

RANGPUR, July 15, 2025 (BSS) - Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) is now ready to commemorate martyr Abu Sayeed on the memorable day of July 16 tomorrow by paying deep tribute to the epic hero of the nation.
 
This day was the turning point in the fall of the fascist mass-killer Sheikh Hasina regime last year.
 
On that day, Abu Sayeed, a brilliant student of the Department of English of the university was shot dead by the police during the anti-discrimination student movement in front of the university.
 
Immediately after this incident, the entire country was in turmoil. As a result, Hasina fled the country on August 5 subsequently. 
 

The BRUR authority has completed preparations to observe the martyrdom anniversary of Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the anti-discrimination movement, and the 'July Martyr's Day'-2025 to commemorate his sacrifice tomorrow. 
 
Vice-chancellor Professor Showkat Ali told BSS that martyred Abu Sayeed's father Md Mokbul Hossain will attend the programmes as the chief guest and relatives of the 21 martyred families of Rangpur will attend as special guests. 
 
He said the programmes include visiting the grave of martyred Abu Sayeed in village Babanpur at 7:30 am, wearing black badges and mourning rally at BRUR campus at 9:15 am, laying the foundation stones of martyred Abu Sayeed Gate and Museum at 10 am, laying the foundation stone of martyred Abu Sayeed monument at 10:15 am, discussion at 10:30 am, drawing competition at 3:30 pm and dua and milad mahfil at 5:30 pm at the university's central mosque.
 
He said that four advisers of the interim government will be guests of honor at the programmes at the birthplace of martyred Abu Sayeed in village Babanpur under Pirganj upazila and BRUR campus tomorrow.
 
They are: Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Education, professor Dr Chaudhury Rafiqul Abrar, Adviser to the ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Pratik.
 
In addition, Bangladesh university grants commission chairman professor Dr SMA Fayez, its member professor Dr Tanzimuddin Khan and senior secretary to the ministry of education Siddique Jobayer will also be present as guests of honor, he added. 
 
The university's proctor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman said vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali will preside over the programmes.
 
In order to strengthen overall security on the occasion of July Martyrs' Day- 2025, the university authority has banned outsiders from entering the campus from 7 pm on July 13 to 9 am on July 16 next. 
 
"All students from BRUR have been asked to enter the campus with their ID cards. The university administration has called on all concerned, including students, teachers, officers, and employees, to cooperate in this regard," the proctor said. 
 
In addition, various political parties and socio-cultural organisations have undertaken various programmes to observe the day in Rangpur city tomorrow.
