DHAKA, July 15, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan has said the university will observe 'Female Student Day' on July 14 every year in recognition of the outstanding role of the female students during the July mass-uprising.

Additionally, DU will observe the 'Terror Resistance Day' on July 17 every year recalling the historical contribution of bold resistance by the students against the terrorism, he said.

The VC said this while observing the first anniversary of July mass-uprising at Raju Memorial Sculpture in the DU campus here on Monday.

These two significant days will be included in the regular calendar of the university, Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan added.

Remembering all the students who participated in the uprising, he said: "We, on behalf of the DU, convey deep respect and gratitude to those who came from different parts of the country including private universities, colleges and Madrasas."

"This uprising, staged by the students and people, has created a new scope before us and we have to exploit that opportunity and that's why we are committed," the VC continued.

"We opposed the terrorism on that day," he said, adding that the country's students created an example which inspired the whole nation.

"At this moment of great joy today, we are seeing that determination on your face and it is our great achievement," he told the student.

Calling upon all the participants who were involved with the uprising to attach with the part of the DU family, the VC said, "We must work together for the progress of the country through resisting the difference and conspiracy.

He further said, "We never spoiled that opportunity which has been created through sacrificing huge blood. We strongly pledge again to keep our unity."

The DU female students participated at the first anniversary programme of the July mass uprising. They came to the venue with a procession like the then movement day.

The female students chanted the slogan like earlier [the movement period] and observed the day through various programmes.

Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam, DU pro-VC Prof Dr Saima Huq Bidisha, DU Treasurer and also the convener of the July Uprising Revival Committee Prof Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Proctor Prof Saifuddin Ahmad attended, among others.
