DHAKA, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) today removed the Awami League's poll symbol 'Boat' from its website.

EC Secretariat System Manager Engineer Md Rafiqul Haque told BSS that the symbol 'Boat' has been removed as per the directive of the authorities concerned.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) had demanded that the symbol 'Boat' should be removed from the Election Commission's schedule as the Awami League's registration has remained suspended.

NCP leaders made this demand after meeting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Agargaon Election Building recently.

After the meeting with the CEC, NCP leader Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa told reporters, "Even though the registration of the Awami League has been suspended, the symbol 'Boat' has not been removed from the list. We have brought this matter to the attention of the EC."

"Legally, the EC cannot keep the boat symbol in the list. The government has already banned the activities of the Awami League. After that, the EC suspended the registration. Until there is any other decision from the government or any directive from the court regarding the Awami League, the boat symbol cannot be kept on the website list," he added.
