JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today urged future state leaders to turn the grief of July and August into strength through unity, reaffirming JU's commitment to building a 'Dream Jahangirnagar' for a 'Dream Bangladesh.'

"July 16 calls us to rise again with the spirit of martyr Abu Saeed. Those who will take charge of the state must turn this grief into strength through unity," he said while unveiling the 'July-24 Smriti Sarak' nameplate on campus this afternoon.

The programme, chaired by Acting Dean of Social Sciences and Convener of the 'July 36 Autocrat Hasina's Fall Day Celebration-2025' Committee, Professor Dr. Md. Shamsul Alam, began at noon.

Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Dr. Sohel Ahmed, and Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Abdur Rab also spoke at the programme.

Teachers, students, officials, staff, and school-college students attended the event.

Earlier, at 11 am, a 'Mourning and Solidarity Rally' marched from the Faculty of Social Sciences to the VC's residence, where the road from the VC's residence to Chourangi was officially named 'July-24 Smriti Sarak.'

At 5 pm, a memorial discussion and prayers were held at Zahir Raihan Auditorium, alongside prayers at the university mosque and temple.

Marking the 'Black Night' last night, a documentary screening, reminiscence sharing, symbolic blackout, and candlelight vigil were held in front of the VC's residence, recalling memories of the 2024 student movement and subsequent uprising.
