July Mass Uprising commemorated in Ctg amid various programmes

CHATTOGRAM, July 16, 2025 (BSS) – July Mass Uprising was commemorated in Chattogram amid cultural programmes and drone shows and other events.

A month-long series of programmes are being organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and managed by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to revive the memory of the July Uprising.

As part of this, a colourful cultural event and drone show began at 6 pm today at the Chattogram MA Aziz Stadium.

The turbulent days of July 2024 last year, the struggle, glory and heroism, sacrifice and suffering are reflected in today's event.

The audience was delighted with the film screening, songs, remembrance of the martyrs’ family, and the captivating performances of the country's best bands and artistes including ethnic groups of Marma, Chakma and Bom.

A long, peaceful queue of students, young men and women and youth was witnessed to enter the stadium from 4 pm. 

The field of the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram was full.

The event commemorated with deep respect to Shaheed Abu Sayeed, who was the first to surrender in front of a gun in Rangpur on July 16, 2024, Shaheed Faisal Hossain Shanto of Chattogram, Shaheed Mohammad Wasim, Shaheed Md. 

Shahjahan Mia, Shaheed Md. Faruk and all the martyrs of July 2024 Uprising.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-E-Azam were present at the programme.

Cultural Secretary Md. Mofidur Rahman and senior officials of other ministries, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Secretary and Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Mohammad Wares Hossain, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam, directors of various departments of the academy and divisional and district level officials were present.

Parents, family members and relatives of the martyred family also joined it.
The cultural event titled “Katha Ka” started at 6:15 pm.

At 7 pm, Shaheed Faisal Hossain Shanto's mother, Shaheed Omar Faruk's wife Seema Akhter, a member of the family of Shaheed who died in the July Movement, reminisced on stage. They narrated the memories of their children and husband in tearful voices.

Then, a film made about BUET student Shaheed Abrar Fahad, a film made about Shaheed Wasim Waqar, 'Julai Bishad Sindhu' and a film made about injured members of the July Movement, 'Julai Birgatha' were screened.
At 8 pm, 'Parabar Shilpi Gosthi' took to the stage. The band Rhythm and Pritam enthralled the audience. 

Drone Show was held at 11 pm as a special attraction.

The Bangladesh government and the Chinese government jointly showcased the story of July by flying 2000 drones in this ‘Drone Show’.
