DHAKA, July 17, 2025 (BSS) - BNP has alleged that the supporters of fascist Sheikh Hasina have carried out a planned attack on the National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders with the aim of destroying the democratic process in the country.
BNP made the allegation at its standing committee meeting held on Wednesday night, said a press release signed by party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman chaired the meeting while standing committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram and Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain were present.
The standing committee hoped that the political parties will determine their programmes with great caution; otherwise, the anti-democratic forces will be able to take the advantage of the situation.
BNP strongly condemned the attack by Awami League supporters and miscreants on the NCP rally in Gopalganj on Wednesday.
“BNP believed that with an aim to obstruct the democratic process, the supporters of the fallen fascist Hasina carried out the planned attacks on the rally of NCP, which played a significant role in the anti-fascist movement,” said the release.
As a result, the government had to impose Section 144 and curfew, which is considered as a blueprint to hinder the democratic process. Even a group is trying to systematically deteriorate the law and order situation in the country to block the democratic transition.
The standing committee believed that their aim is to disrupt the promised national elections in February as well as to make it questionable.
The BNP leaders present at the meeting commented that the unethical statements and slogans of some political parties unfairly implicating BNP in the brutal murders that took place in the Mitford area of the capital recently have shocked the entire nation.
The obscene and insulting comments and slogans that were made targeting Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the declarer of independence, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and young leader of the anti-fascist movement Tarique Rahman have created strong anger across the country.
For this reason, BNP has strongly condemned and protested these activities and called for maintaining political etiquette.
