DHAKA, July 17, 2025 (BSS) - Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Railways Dr Sheik Moinuddin today said the country needs a long term and coordinated master plan integrated with road, rail and waterways to improve country’s communication system and development of the railway as well.

Dr Moinuddin said this as the chief guest at a meeting of views exchange with the officials of the railway ministry and Bangladesh railway at Rail Bhaban here.

In many developing countries in the world more than 30 to 35 percent passengers and the goods are being transported through the railway, he said, adding that whereas only 2 percent goods are being carried through the railway in Bangladesh.

So, the country needs to increase the passenger and goods carrying capacity through the railway, Moinuddin said.

Railway secretary M Fahimul Islam was in the chair while Director General of Bangladesh Railway M Afzal Hossain and senior officials were present.
