July Uprising: Protest rally, mass song held at JU

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, July 17 (BSS) – As part of the observance of ‘36 July: Fall of Autocrat Hasina Day 2025’, a protest rally and mass song programme was held today at Jahangirnagar University (JU).

Speaking at the event, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said, “The students of Jahangirnagar University must be a source of pride for the entire nation. To achieve this, leaders of active student organizations must foster cordial relations among themselves.”

He also underscored the role of campus-based cultural organisations in offering constructive criticism of university affairs.

Calling upon the students, the Vice-Chancellor urged them to break the cycle of misrule and uphold unity. “We must collectively resist misrule and preserve unity among ourselves,” he added.

The programme was presided over by Professor Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Chairman of the ‘36 July: Fall of Autocrat Hasina Day 2025’ Celebration Committee.

Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Sohel Ahmed, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Mafruhi Sattar, the Proctor, various hall provosts, and students also addressed the gathering.

The event was jointly conducted by Faiza Mehjabeen and Syeeda Meher Afroze Shaonlee.

A mass song performance by Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote was also featured as part of the programme.
