DHAKA, July 21, 2025(BSS) - Home and Agriculture Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Rtd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said the government is considering marketing of potato through Open Market Sale (OMS).

“The farmers have produced huge potato this year...They will lose their interest in producing more potato next year if they don’t get fair price of their produce,” he said.

The adviser said this while briefing media after attending the monthly coordination meeting of the ministry of agriculture at Bangladesh Secretariat here.

He said the people are able to buy onion with low price this year as its production is higher than the previous years. But, we have no adequate cold storage to preserve it.

The government has already built 100 mini cold storages in the country for preserving green vegetables despite many limitations, Jahangir Alam said adding that more cold storage would be constructed in different areas of the country for preserving  agricultural goods.

He alleged that the previous governments have misappropriated public money in the name of purchasing agricultural instruments and the present government has sent those papers to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for probing the allegations.

Referring to fertilizer availability, he said there will not be any crisis of fertilizer this year as we have enough stock of fertilizer in the country right now.

The government has already paid all the dues in this sector for importing more fertilizer, if necessary, he added.
