VOED files allegations of enforced disappearances at ICT

DHAKA, July 21, 2025 (BSS) - Voice of Enforced Disappeared Persons (VOED), a platform to seek truth, accountability, and justice for the victims of enforced disappearance and their families, today filed 14 allegations of enforced disappearance at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

VOED adviser Abdul Qaium Mithu, flanked by a couple of enforced disappearance victims, filed the allegations with the office of the ICT chief prosecutor. Of the 14 allegations, 13 are against former additional superintendant of police Md Alep Uddin, while four other former cops were also implicated in other allegation.

“More than ten thousand people became victims of enforced disappearance during the former Awami League regime. Of the incidents, we are filing allegations over 14 enforced disappearances those took place from 2017 to 2019,” Abdul Qaium Mithu said.

Enforced disappearance victim Masud Gazi, who was present while filing allegations, said he was picked up by members of the law enforcing agency while returning from Biswa Ijtema in 2019. “They kept me confined and blindfolded for 45 days,” he said.
