DINAJPUR, July 22, 2025 (BSS) - The 125MW generation capacity unit-1 of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant today resumed its generation after 14 hours of closure due to national grid glitch, an official said today.

"The unit resumed generation at 12 noon after necessary maintenance and started power supply to the national grid," the chief engineer of the plant, Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, told BSS here.

He said the unit is currently producing 70MW of power below its 125MW capacity, adding, "Till now, the unit-3 is yet to be brought into operation. Some equipment got damaged due to grid problem. But efforts were underway to bring the unit in operation."

According the plant source, the 275MW generation capacity unit-3 went out of operation on Monday morning, which had been contributing 180-200MW electricity to the national grid.

Meanwhile, the 125MW generation capacity unit-1 was producing 50-60MW power for the national grid, it said.

Production in unit-2 with 125 MW capacity remained suspended from November 2020 due to mechanical faults.
