SC judgment on war crimes convict’s appeal against death sentence July 30

DHAKA, July 22, 2025 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today set July 30 for pronouncing its judgment on an appeal filed by Mobarak Hossain against his death sentence handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity in 1971.

 A five-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed passed the order after holding hearing on the plea.

Senior advocate SM Shahjahan and Barrister Emran A Siddique argued for Mobarak, while Gazi MH Tamim took part in the hearing for the ICT prosecution.

The ICT-1 on November 24, 2014, sentenced Md Mobarak Hossain from Brahmanbaria’s Akhaurha for his crimes against humanity in 1971. The tribunal had found him guilty of two charges out of the total five framed against him.
