JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, July 22, 2025 (BSS) - A group of Jahangirnagar University (JU) students and teachers have remembered the deceased of the fighter jet crash into the Milestone School and College in Uttara.

The JU Students’ Counselling and Guidance Centre, in collaboration with various cultural organizations, organized a candlelight vigil and solidarity rally at the central Shaheed Minar at around 8:30 pm.

Addressing the rally, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said, “We have witnessed the collapse of institutional frameworks under past regimes. What happened was not just an accident; it was a structural killing. We must uncover the real cause of this tragedy. If there were systemic flaws, they must be brought to light."

He urged the government to act responsibly and promptly in handling any circumstances.

Treasurer Prof Dr M Abdur Rab said, “My heart filled with profound grief after hearing the tragic incident. The matter must be investigated aptly so that incidents like this are never repeated.”

Speakers at the rally emphasized the need for a neutral, thorough, and credible investigation into the crash.

Besides, a group of students under the banner of ‘General students’ brought out a torch procession demanding a fair investigation into the plane crash incident from the university’s Bot Tola area to Shaheed Minar premises at around 9:30 pm, which ended with a short rally.

Earlier, around 7:45 pm, approximately 30 students under the banner ‘Nipironer Biruddhe Jahangirnagar’ led a torch procession from the university’s central Shaheed Minar to Bot Tola to express solidarity with Milestones School and College, concluding with a brief rally.

Faiza Mehzabin, president of Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote (a faction), said, “We are living through a painful time. A child who once dreamed of the skies is now gone. Tiffin boxes have returned home, but the children haven’t. This was not a mere accident; it was a structural killing.”
