DHAKA, Nov 25, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh will observe National Livestock Week 2025 for the first time, arranging various programmes across the country from tomorrow to December 2.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus issued a message on the eve of the day.

The Chief Adviser expressed satisfaction that the country will observe the National Livestock Week 2025 for the first time with the theme "Indigenous breeds, modern technology: Development will advance through livestock".

In the message, Professor Yunus said the livestock sector has emerged as a vital contributor in ensuring adequate animal protein to build a healthy, strong and skilled nation.

The sector is also contributing significantly to creating low-investment employment for marginal communities, strengthening women's empowerment, expanding commercial farms and supporting industries and earning foreign currency, he said.

He added that the implementation of various development projects by the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), alongside increasing investments by private entrepreneurs, has boosted the production of eggs, milk and meat, helping meet the nation's demand for animal protein.

However, he pointed out that the sector is facing major challenges, including the impacts of climate change, shortages of animal feed, antibiotic resistance, use of animal byproducts, control of zoonotic diseases and management of emerging and re-emerging diseases.

The interim government formed after the July uprising is working tirelessly to address these challenges, he said, adding that the weeklong observance will further strengthen the government's efforts.

He also said that newly developed technologies for livestock rearing will help create new entrepreneurs among marginal farmers and play an important role in the country's overall development.
