Justice Ashfaqul Islam to act as CJ from Dec 19-24

DHAKA, Dec 4, 2025 (BSS) - Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam will serve as the acting Chief Justice (CJ) from December 19 to 24, 2025, as Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed is scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform holy Umrah.

"During this period, or until Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed resumes office, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam will discharge the duties of the Chief Justice," said a notice issued by the Law and Justice Division.

Signed by Law and Justice Division Secretary Liaquet Ali Molla, the notice stated that Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, the senior-most judge of the Appellate Division, has received the President's approval to perform the functions of the Chief Justice in accordance with Article 97 of the Constitution.
