DHAKA, Dec 6, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Ansar-VDP Humanitarian Assistance Center, established to support victims of the devastating Korail Slum fire at the T&T ground in Gulshan, wrapped up its nine-day relief operation today, marking the end of an intensive service program aimed at helping displaced families.

Throughout the nine days, the center distributed emergency food, winter clothing, and daily cooked meals to affected residents, said a press release.

On the final day, packets of powdered milk were provided to 1,200 children affected by the fire.

Additional Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Brigadier General Fida Mahmud attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest.

He emphasized the organization's commitment to humanitarian service, stating, "After a disaster like the fire, our main goal was to provide humanitarian assistance to people to overcome their mental and physical losses."

He added that the force remains committed to supporting vulnerable people during future crises.

The November 25 fire left more than 1,000 people homeless, creating severe shortages of shelter and basic necessities.

Under the directive of Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud the humanitarian center was launched on November 28 with the motto "Manush Manusher Jonno" (People for People).

In response to worsening winter conditions, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP distributed 500 blankets and 400 winter garments.

Additionally, the center served cooked meals to 2,000 people twice daily for nine consecutive days, ensuring basic food security for the displaced families.

The force is also working to establish alternative water supply points to restore access to safe drinking water for slum dwellers.

Once completed, these installations are expected to provide long-term water security for the community.

The coordinated relief efforts of Bangladesh Ansar-VDP have emerged as a source of hope and resilience for the Korail Slum fire victims, helping restore their confidence as they begin rebuilding their lives.
