DHAKA, Dec 7, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said that if anyone can curb the menace of corruption in Bangladesh, it is only Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) that has the ability to free the country from corruption.
He said, “If anyone can curb corruption in Bangladesh, it is only possible for the BNP. This is because we have historically curbed corruption in this country. Insha’Allah, we will be able to perform this task for the people of the country in the future.”
Tarique Rahman made the remarks as the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony of the BNP’s 7-day programme titled 'Plan for Nation Building' held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall in the city.
He said that BNP was in charge of running the country from 2001 to 2006. Prior to that, the fugitive autocrat was in power. "We saw how they spread corruption in the country during that time. Later, Khaleda Zia’s government in 2001 gradually improved the state of corruption. There is a beautiful analysis by an international organisation on how the country was slowly pulled out of corruption. Therefore, we can say firmly and with great confidence that only the BNP has the capability to curb corruption in this country."
Referring to the difficult times ahead, the BNP Acting Chairman mentioned, "I have been saying since August 5, 2024 that the times ahead are not good for us. Many difficult times await … various conspiracies are taking place in various ways and in various places. The people of this country and BNP can resist this conspiracy."
Stating that democracy is the only way to tackle all conspiracies, he said, "The only way to resist this conspiracy is democracy, and if we can establish democracy and establish the will of the people. Then we will certainly be able to resist many conspiracies."
During the speech, Tarique Rahman shared details about the various developmental activities of BNP.
"There are two even more important issues that are 'corruption' and the 'law and order situation'. We must address these two issues at any cost. And if we fail to address these two issues, our entire nation and country will face a crisis," he added.
The Acting Chairman further said, "We must curb corruption and improve the law and order situation at any cost. If we fail to rein in corruption and improve law and order, every plan we have adopted will be hindered and slowed down."
Mentioning that the law and order situation improved during the BNP's tenure, Tarique Rahman said, "During the previous BNP government, we improved the law and order situation in the country by creating various law enforcement agencies. Subsequently, we saw how the autocratic government abused their power and used those law enforcement agencies for political gain. This has tarnished the image of the entire country in front of the world and has also tarnished the image of those law enforcement agencies."
Stating that the fascist Awami League has destroyed everything in the country, he said, "We can feel, in every layer of our lives, how the deposed autocrat has destroyed every sector of this country. How they have broken down the country’s economic system, how they have dismantled law and order, how they have destroyed the education system, how they have destroyed the healthcare system, how they have ruined the natural environment, and how they have destroyed agriculture and everything else—the people of this country are the sufferers of this."
Calling on all party activists to work shoulder-to-shoulder to implement all of the BNP's plans, he said, "If we are to take the country forward, if we are to move the people of the country from their current position to a better one, then all of us must work shoulder-to-shoulder."
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi presided over the event.
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the event this morning.
