DHAKA, Dec 8, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today exempted BNP leader Advocate Fazlur Rahman from contempt of court charges after he offered an unconditional apology for remarks he had made about the tribunal.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mazumder, passed the order as Advocate Fazlur Rahman appeared before the court in compliance with an order issued on November 30.
Senior jurists Zainul Abedin and Ruhul Quddus Kazal represented the BNP leader during the hearing while Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Gazi Qamrul Islam Sajal and several other pro-BNP lawyers were also present.
On November 30 last, the tribunal issued a show-cause notice asking Advocate Fazlur Rahman to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him. He was instructed to appear in person on December 8 [Monday] with his academic and bar council certificates, along with his written
explanation.
Earlier on November 26, the ICT prosecution filed a contempt petition against him.
Prosecution sources said the petition was lodged over derogatory remarks Fazlur Rahman allegedly made about the tribunal during a programme aired on a private television channel.
