DHAKA, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser Dr A F M Khalid Hossain today said that the Great Liberation War was an armed protest against oppression and deprivation.
He made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest the ceremony marking the two-decade anniversary of Al-Iman Adarsha Mohila Alim Madrasah and the unveiling ceremony of Al-Iman commemorative-2 at Uttar Jhapuya of Maheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar, an official release said.
Praying for eternal peace of the martyrs of the Liberation War, the adviser said the nation has stepped into the 55th year of victory.
He noted that despite various achievements over the last 54 years, a wide gap still remains between expectations and actual gains.
“We have achieved many things, but not as much as we expected. We have failed to become good human beings,” he said, urging people to refrain from theft, looting, corruption, violence against women and all anti-national activities.
He called upon everyone to build moral character and work collectively to establish Bangladesh as an ideal state.
Dr Khalid also said several countries gained independence around the same time like Bangladesh, but they have progressed far ahead in terms of GDP, per capita income and forex reserves, which are now enviable.
Criticizing those who plunder national resources and build houses abroad, he termed such individuals enemies of the country.
Highlighting the importance of women’s education, the adviser said women have played a vital role in the development of society throughout history.
They have also made significant contributions to state administration and even participated in wars, he said.
Women played an extraordinary role in the Liberation War as well, he added, calling for collective efforts to promote female education.
The event was presided over by Dr Muhammad Rashid Jahed, Dean of the Faculty of Shariah at International Islamic University and founder of Al-Iman Adarsha Mohila Alim Madrasah.
Allama Muhammad Furqanullah Khalil, Chief Director of Jamia Darul Ma’arif Al Islamia of Chattogram, addressed the programme as the main discussant.
Among others, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Planning Md Abul Hashem, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Maheshkhali Upazila Abu Zafar Mazumder, Officer-in-Charge Md Mujibur Rahman and member of the madrasah’s Board of Directors Ekhlasur Rahman spoke as special guests.
Later, the religious affairs adviser visited the under-construction Islamic Mission Centre at Deodighi in Satkania upazila of Chattogram.
