DHAKA, Dec 23, 2025 (BSS) – The government has launched a special initiative to collect precise information on waste burning, a major source of air pollution.

Air pollution has emerged as a serious threat to public health in Bangladesh. Emissions from vehicles, brick kilns, industrial facilities, and the burning of waste are steadily deteriorating air quality across the country. As a result, health risks—including respiratory illnesses—are increasing, posing particular danger to children, the elderly, and people with existing health conditions.

To address this challenge, the government has undertaken strong measures to identify and control the sources of air pollution. As part of these efforts, a decision has been taken to take firm action against waste burning, one of the major contributors to air pollution, said a press release of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
 
In this connection, an initiative has been launched to collect precise information on locations where waste burning occurs. The government believes that active participation by citizens is essential for the successful implementation of this initiative.
To engage commoners in efforts to curb air pollution, the government is requesting all citizens of Bangladesh to submit photographs of waste burning incidents. If such incidents are observed, relevant photographs may be sent to [email protected]. 
Each submission must include the name of the photographer or sender, mobile phone number, the exact location and address, and the time of the incident.

Each month, the best 10 photographs will be selected from the submissions after verification, and appropriate rewards will be awarded to the selected contributors. The government expects that active public participation in this initiative will play a significant role in controlling air pollution.
