
DHAKA, Dec 25, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today expressed his feelings on his home return after 17 years in exile, saying he finally touched the soil of Bangladesh.
“Finally in Sylhet, on Bangladesh’s soil!” he wrote in a post shared in his verified Facebook account.
Earlier, he shared his feelings in another Facebook post on how he was keen to return to his motherland-Bangladesh.
"After a long 6,314 days I am in the sky of Bangladesh", he wrote in a post inserting his photo where it was seen he was on board to return home.
A regular Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Tarique Rahman today touched down Bangladesh soil at Osmani International Airport here en route to Dhaka.
"The flight boarding Tarique Rahman landed at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet en route to Dhaka at 09:56am," said BNP Media Cell Convener Professor Dr Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel.
Later, the aircraft left for Dhaka airport after just making a one hour stopover there and landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:40am.
He returned home after a long 17 years in exile in the UK. His wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman accompanied him.
The flight left London's Heathrow Airport for Dhaka at 6:15 pm (London time) on Wednesday.
Upon his arrival, members of the BNP Standing Committee extended a warm reception to him at Dhaka airport.
He will proceed to Evercare Hospital to see his ailing mother and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
A very brief public event has also been arranged in the area of July 36 Expressway (300-Foot Road) as the BNP acting chairman will express his gratitude to the people of the country there on his way to the hospital.
