
SYLHET, Dec 25, 2025 (BSS) - Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd.) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain today inaugurated Bholaganj Land Port in Companyganj upazila of the district with the aim of expansion of border trade and regional economic development.
He inaugurated the Bholaganj Land Port as the 24th land port of the country under the initiative of Bangladesh Land Port Authority with the financial support of World Bank under the Ministry of Shipping.
In his inaugural speech, Sakhawat Hossain said, through the opening of Bholaganj land port, new doors of possibilities will be opened for the expansion of business and trade in the bordering areas as well as employment creation and economic development.
This port will further accelerate the economic activities of the Sylhet region and will play an important role in strengthening bilateral trade with the neighboring states, he added.
He said that Bholaganj Land Port will take not only the commercial activities but also the communication system and economic activities of the entire region to a new height.
The adviser said, "Through the opening of the Bholaganj Land Port, the quality of life of the people of the region will improve, new momentum will be generated in business and trade and a positive and sustainable change will be initiated in the national economy."
Shipping Secretary Dr Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam and Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Mohammad Manzarul Mannan, among others, were present at the event.
Later, the adviser visited different facilities and infrastructure of Bholaganj Land Port and provided necessary guidance to the concerned officials.
