DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) – Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who succumbed to his bullet injuries on December 18.
“We are all deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Mr Sharif Osman Hadi. Political violence is a scourge that inflicts deep wounds to families and society at large,” he wrote in a letter to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing released the letter, dated December 23, today.
Balakrishnan said Hadi has left an enduring legacy as a youth leader who was courageous and unwavering in his commitment to the people of Bangladesh.
“Please convey our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones during this time of profound grief,” he wrote to the Chief Adviser, adding, “We wish you success in unifying your nation in peace and charting a bright future for all Bangladesh citizens”.
“Thank you for your kind invitation to visit Bangladesh. I look forward to accepting the invitation at a mutually convenient time,” Balakrishnan said.
Sharif Osman Hadi, the fearless frontline fighter of the July Uprising and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, was shot on December 12 while he was on a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the city's Paltan area.
He was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later shifted to Evercare Hospital on the same day as his condition deteriorated.
On December 15, Hadi was taken to Singapore by air ambulance for better treatment, where he succumbed to his bullet injuries on December 18, casting a shadow of grief over the entire nation.
Hadi, also an aspiring independent candidate for Dhaka-8, is regarded as "an immortal soldier of the struggle against fascism and hegemony".
