Workshop on aviation security held in Dhaka

DHAKA, Dec 29, 2025 (BSS)- A workshop titled “Challenges and Opportunities in Aviation Security” was held at the Civil Aviation Academy today to address existing challenges in aviation security and explore future prospects under the initiative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).

The workshop discussed airport security, passenger and baggage screening, cargo security, cyber threats, insider threats, the use of modern technology, and compliance with international standards, particularly ICAO Annex 17. 

It also highlighted emerging technologies, skilled human resource development and integrated security systems as avenues for creating new opportunities in aviation security.

Member (Security) of CAAB Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal attended the workshop as a discussant, while the keynote paper was presented by Civil Aviation Academy Director and ICAO Instructor Prashanta Kumar Chakraborty. 

The speakers shared practical experiences and case studies, outlining effective strategies to mitigate security risks.

Senior officials of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) Department of CAAB, a Superintendent of Police from APBn, an Additional Superintendent of Police from the Immigration Police, and senior officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines, along with high-level representatives of relevant agencies working at various airports across the country, participated in the workshop.

The participants said such workshops would play a vital role in enhancing knowledge and awareness on aviation security and help further strengthen Bangladesh’s aviation security system in line with international standards.

The workshop concluded as a productive and educational event through active participation and exchange of views, followed by the distribution of certificates among the participants.
