BERC to hold public hearing on fixing furnace oil price this month

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) –Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is set to hold a public hearing in last week of this month in determining furnace oil prices.

The public hearing will begin at10:00 am on January 29 with the participation of various interested parties, sources familiar with the development said.  

“The BERC after considering participant’s opinions on the current situation will fix cost-based price of furnace oil,” BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed told BSS here today.

He said stakeholders will have to submit written applications by January 22 to ensure their participation in the hearing set to be held at BERC’s conference room.

According to Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), furnace oil is the second most widely used fuel in Bangladesh after diesel.

During the 2023–24 financial year, sales totaled 955,912 metric tonnes. Of this, 34.87 per cent was refined domestically at Eastern Refinery Limited, while the remaining 65.14 per cent was imported, it said.

BPC’s official data in October 2025 showed that Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) supplied to power producers at the cost of about Taka 86 per litre.
