
DHAKA, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth over Tk 1,908.28 crore during extensive raids carried out across border areas and other parts of the country throughout 2025.
According to a BGB press release, the seizures were made between January 1 and December 31 last year as part of intensified anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics operations.
The recovered contraband included large quantities of gold and silver, garments, cosmetics, fireworks, food items, household goods, vehicles, and livestock.
Among the seized items were over 60 kg of gold, 168 kg of silver, more than 1.7 lakh sarees, 1.33 lakh ready-made garments, nearly 6.9 million cosmetics items, over 207 million fireworks, and thousands of tonnes of food products such as sugar, onions, garlic, tea leaves, and cumin.
The para-military force also recovered vehicles, mobile phones and accessories, wood, stone, coal, fertilizer, seeds, and 12,294 cows and buffaloes.
A significant cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered during the period.
These included pistols, rifles, SMGs, revolvers, hand grenades, mortar shells, mines, petrol bombs, cocktails, ammunition, and explosives, highlighting serious security threats along the border.
In addition, BGB reported massive seizures of narcotics in 2025.
The recovered drugs included more than 147 million Yaba tablets, crystal meth (ice), Phensidyl, foreign liquor, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, LSD, narcotic injections, and various illegal pharmaceutical products.
As part of these operations, BGB arrested 2,334 individuals for involvement in drug trafficking and smuggling.
The force also detained several thousands of people for illegal border crossings, including 4,238 Bangladeshi citizens, 124 Indian nationals, and 7,368 Myanmar nationals. Legal action has been taken against all detainees.
BGB officials said the year-long operations reflect the force’s commitment to protecting national security, preventing drug trafficking, and curbing cross-border smuggling.
