
NARSINGDI, Feb 3, 2026 (BSS) - The Institute for Democracy & Human Rights (IDHR) of The Millennium University (MIU) today organized a seminar titled "Election, Politics & Economy of Bangladesh: The Way Forward" at the Grand Ballroom Gulshan's The Westin in Dhaka.
The seminar brought together academics, policymakers, legal experts and researchers to discuss the country's electoral process, political landscape and economic challenges, and to explore possible pathways forward.
Advocate Rokhsana Khondker, Executive Director of the Khan Foundation, Advocate of Supreme Court and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of The Millennium University, delivered the welcome note.
Providing a contextual overview, Dr Zaidi Sattar, Chairman of the Policy Research Institute (PRI) to Dhaka, highlighted the interlinkages between elections, governance and economic stability, and emphasised the need for inclusive and credible democratic processes to ensure sustainable development.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr Mahreen Khan, Junior Research Fellow at Jesus College and Fellow at Oxford University. She shared insights on global and regional political-economic trends and reflected on their implications for Bangladesh's future development trajectory.
BNP standing committee member and former minister who is also contesting election from Narsingdi-2 (Palash) Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, constitution specialist Dr Shahdeen Malik, Hamim Group chairman AK Azad, economists Ikbal Sohbah and Mahbubur Rahman, among others were present as guests of honour at the programme.
