
DHAKA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today reiterated his government’s firm commitment to ensure equal participation of women and men in the Bangladesh economy.
“Ensuring a safe and supportive environment is urgent for women to be fully involved in the workplace,” he said, urging all concerned to give special importance to women’s security and employment.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of ‘International Women’s Day 2026’ jointly organized by Dhaka University’s Women and Gender Studies Department, United Nations Bangladesh and the Local Consultative Group on Women’s Advancement and Gender Equality (LCGWAGE) at the British Council here today
The state minister called for building a liberal and tolerant society where women can work without any fear or hindrance.
At the same time, he put emphasis on maintaining mutual respect and tolerance in the society so that women feel safe at home and outside.
Highlighting a special initiative from his constituency, Bobby Hajjaj said day-care centres at the workplace for the children of female garment workers were set up so that the female workers can work fearlessly with keeping their children in a safe shelter.
About the Prime Minister’s 180-day action plan, he said this plan will outline the implementation of priority measures for women's empowerment and development as well.
Acting Dean of the DU’s Social Sciences Faculty Professor Dr Taiyebur Rahman was present as the guest of honour while Deputy Representative of UN Women Bangladesh Nabanita Sinha was present as the special guest there.
