DHAKA, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh has called for stronger global efforts to ensure information integrity, combat misinformation and promote inclusive communication at the United Nations Committee on Information in New York.

Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury made the call while addressing the general debate of the 48th session of the Committee on Information at UN Headquarters on Monday, according to a message received here today.

The annual session reviews issues related to global communication, public information and outreach activities of the United Nations.

In his speech, the envoy highlighted growing challenges posed by misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and the misuse of artificial intelligence and digital platforms.

He said these trends are fuelling divisions and eroding trust across societies, stressing the need for responsible use of information and communication technologies.

He also underscored the importance of bridging the digital divide both between and within countries.

Highlighting Bangladesh's contributions to UN peacekeeping, including the deployment of women peacekeepers, the permanent representative called for continued efforts to counter anti-peacekeeping narratives.

He also stressed the need to promote accountability and environmental responsibility in peacekeeping operations.

Chowdhury drew attention to disinformation-driven crises, including the Rohingya situation in Myanmar and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He called for accurate dissemination of information and increased global awareness on those issues.

The envoy reaffirmed Bangladesh's strong commitment to strengthening global communication efforts in line with the principles and values of the United Nations.
