Yasser greets journalists on World Press Freedom Day

DHAKA, May 02, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today greeted all journalists of the country on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day 2026 to be observed tomorrow.

In a statement, he lauded journalists, writers, photojournalists and media professionals for performing their duties with courage, professionalism and objectivity.

"Objective journalism has an undeniable role in strengthening democracy and building the nation. A free, responsible and independent media acts as the mirror of society and plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the state," he said.

Highlighting the government's position, the state minister said the present government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman firmly believes in ensuring full freedom of the media.

He also appreciated the tireless efforts of media workers in maintaining the free flow of information and expressed hope that journalists would continue their work with dedication, upholding national interests.

The state minister wished the journalists continued success in their professional endeavors.

The World Press Freedom Day is observed globally on May 3 every year to promote freedom of the press and to honor journalists who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
