President congratulates Bangladesh on election to presidency of 81st UNGA session

DHAKA, June 3, 2026 (BSS) - President Mohammed Shahabuddin has expressed profound satisfaction, pride and delight at Bangladesh's election to the presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

In a congratulatory message issued today, the Head of State extended his heartfelt congratulations to the government, the country's diplomats, successful candidate Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and above all, the people of Bangladesh on this glorious achievement.

He described the success as recognition of Bangladesh's diplomatic excellence, its growing acceptance in the international arena and its steadfast commitment to multilateral cooperation.

The President also expressed deep gratitude to the member states that demonstrated their confidence in and support for Bangladesh.

He expressed hope that under his leadership, the 81st UNGA Session would play a significant role in further strengthening global peace, sustainable development, international cooperation and multilateralism.

The President said the achievement would further enhance Bangladesh's prestige, credibility and influence in the international community and open up new avenues of opportunity for the country.
