DHAKA, June 25, 2026 (BSS) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin today said the eternal message of holy Ashura inspires people to stand against injustice, oppression and abuse of power, while guiding them towards truth, beauty and enlightenment.

The Head of the State made the remarks in a message issued today on the occasion of holy Ashura (10 Muharram), to be observed tomorrow.

In his message, he expressed profound respect and sorrow for Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), members of his family, and all the martyrs who embraced martyrdom on the plains of Karbala.

The President said holy Ashura is a significant and mournful day for the entire Muslim Ummah. Although Ashura commemorates many important events in Islamic history, the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala has bestowed upon the day a unique dignity and deep humanitarian significance.

President Shahabuddin said their supreme sacrifice for establishing truth and justice and upholding the noble ideals of Islam would remain an eternal source of inspiration in human history.

Expressing hope, he said the great lessons of holy Ashura would illuminate the lives of all.

The President also said Islam, the religion of peace and welfare, calls upon people to follow the path of truth, sacrifice, self-purification and justice.

"It seeks to eliminate violence, hatred, animosity and division, and unite people in bonds of harmony and mutual understanding," he added.

On the occasion of holy Ashura, the President wished for the establishment of an equitable, justice-based and humane society, as well as unity, solidarity and continued progress of the Muslim Ummah.
