JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, July 27, 2026 (BSS) - Professor Dr Md Sohel Rana of 
the Pharmacy Department has been appointed as the new Treasurer of 
Jahangirnagar University (JU).

The Secondary and Higher Education Department under the Ministry of Education 
issued a gazette notification announcing the appointment today.

According to the notification, the President and Chancellor approved the 
appointment under Section 14(1) of the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973.

Dr Sohel Rana will hold the office for four years from the date of joining or 
until his retirement, whichever comes first.

The notification said he will receive an honorarium equivalent to the pay of 
his substantive post in line with a government notification issued on 
December 27, 2020. He will also enjoy other benefits as prescribed by the 
relevant rules and remain stationed on the university campus full-time.

As Treasurer, he will exercise the powers and perform the duties assigned 
under the university's Act and Statutes as well as those delegated by the 
university's Vice-Chancellor (VC).

The notification further said the President and Chancellor may cancel the 
appointment at any time if necessary.

The order was issued in the public interest and takes immediate effect, the 
notification added.
