DHAKA, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU)
Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam today received a copy of the book titled
'July Gonoobhyutthane Narir Bhumika' (Role of Women in July Uprising)
authored by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) journalist Tahmid Sakib.

Tahmid Sakib, student of mass communication and journalism department of
Dhaka University, handed over the book to the VC at his office today,
according to a press release issued by the university's Public Relations
Office.

The release stated that Tahmid Sakib completed the work after interviewing
women from Dhaka University as well as various schools, colleges, and
universities across the country who participated in the July Mass Uprising.

The book has been published by the Department of Films and Publications (DFP)
under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Expressing his gratitude, Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam thanked the author for
documenting such an important aspect of the movement.

"The role of women in the July Mass Uprising was extraordinary. Women led the
movement from the front line. Initiatives like this to commemorate their
contributions always deserve praise," the VC added.

He also expressed hope that other students of Dhaka University would be
inspired by Tahmid Sakib's initiative to engage in research and writing on
critical issues concerning history, society, and the state.

Sharing his motivation behind the book, Tahmid Sakib said, "While reporting
during the July Mass Uprising of '24, I witnessed the spontaneous
participation of women from up close. Their involvement truly turned the tide
of the movement. However, after the uprising, they were rarely seen in the
forefront. That realization prompted me to ensure their stories are
documented for history."
