BARISHAL, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - The Barishal University Journalists' Association (BUJA) today organized a day-long photo exhibition titled "The First Free Campus of July: Barishal University through the Lens of the Media" to commemorate the July Mass Uprising.

The exhibition was inaugurated at noon on the ground floor of the university and will remain open to visitors until 9:00 pm.

A total of 36 photographs were displayed, including 30 capturing key moments of the July Mass Uprising and six featuring reports published in national newspapers by BUJA members during the movement. 

The photographs highlighted the struggle, resistance and participation of students, local residents and members of the university community throughout the uprising.

Barishal University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Mamun Or Rashid inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest, while Barishal Press Club President Aminul Islam Khasru attended as the special guest.

Among others present were university Registrar Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Alim Mridha, Proctor Associate Professor Md. Mehedi Hasan Sohag, Barishal District Journalists' Union President Azad Alauddin and Prothom Alo photojournalist Md. Saiyan.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor said the exhibition was a meaningful initiative that preserves the memories of the July Mass Uprising and pays tribute to those who sacrificed during the movement.

"The July Uprising-themed event organized by the Barishal University Journalists' Association is both meaningful and memorable. This exhibition beautifully preserves the memories of July. We must duly honour the sacrifices of those who fought during the movement," he said, thanking the association for organizing the event and expressing hope that it would continue such initiatives.

Aminul Islam Khasru said the July Mass Uprising sought to strengthen the anti-discrimination movement and protest the repression carried out by the then government against students and ordinary citizens. He praised the journalists' association for preserving the history of the movement through the exhibition.

BUJA President Md. Robiul Islam expressed satisfaction over the successful arrangement of the exhibition and said the association hoped to organize similar events in the future.

Leaders of different student organizations, members of the journalists' association, teachers, students, university officials and staff also visited the exhibition.
