DHAKA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said an integrated initiative is crucial to make the country's film industry contemporary and ensure its overall improvement.

"It is crucial to develop skilled directors, producers and artists for the overall development of our film industry. We have to start working now with the goal that those directors' names will be written in golden letters 20, 30 or 40 years from now," he said.

He made the remarks at a discussion meeting held at the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon in the chair.

The discussion was focused on formulating a specific roadmap for the development of the country's film industry.

The state minister said the government wants sustainable development of the overall film industry rather than keeping it centred only on the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).

"We have to make wholesome films while maintaining decency, which can be watched by families together and which receive high praise from general audiences," he said.

He particularly stressed improving the skills and quality of local scriptwriters.

He said the government wants to ensure visible and positive changes in the sector within the next five years, and called upon all concerned to come forward spontaneously and extend full cooperation to achieve the goal.

Bangladesh Television (BTV) Director General Kazi Jesin, Bangladesh Betar Director General (Additional Charge) A S M Zahid, Bangladesh Film Certification Board Vice Chairman S M Abdur Rahman, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani and BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, among others, addressed the discussion.

Leading figures from the film sector, producers, directors, artistes and representatives of various organisations also attended the meeting and shared their views.

Senior government officials and people associated with the film and entertainment sectors attended the discussion.
