DHAKA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that leaders and activists of the ruling party must remain engaged with the people and keep them informed about the government's activities and programs.
"If leaders and activists remain engaged with the people, no one will get the opportunity to harbor unethical thoughts," he told journalists after paying tribute at the graves of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Earlier, Rizvi offered ‘Fatiha’ at the graves and prayed for the departed souls along with leaders and activists of the party and its associated bodies at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anne, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator and valiant freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam, BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, among others, were present on the occasion.

A large number of leaders from the BNP central committee and its various units along with leaders and activists of the party’s associated bodies were present on the occasion.
Rizvi said, "The Prime Minister has ensured accountability at every level through various ongoing program…Therefore, the party will not engage in any activity outside public interest."
He said that BNP has been established as a popular political party among the people due to the public welfare activities of its founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and the late stateswoman Begum Khaleda Zia.
"Their works for women's empowerment and the country's economic development has increased BNP's popularity," he added.
The veteran BNP leader further said that now their capable and eldest son Tarique Rahman is implementing new programs alongside those continuous efforts, which have gained immense popularity among the people.
"Party leaders and activists will cooperate in implementing these programs and present them to the people. This will further enhance BNP's popularity," he added.
Addressing party leaders and activists, Rizvi said, "Those across the country who may be involved in unethical activities using the party's name must be cautious. Instead of engaging in unethical activities, they should focus on constructive work and strengthen the party. At the same time, party leaders and activists must try to work as representatives of the people."
He further said that at the local level, leaders from union, upazila, thana, and district levels will scrutinize everything and support capable candidates in the union parishad elections.
"Elections will no longer be held under party symbols. Party leaders, activists, and supporters will support the party-backed candidates," he said.
Mentioning the recent survey regarding the government Rizvi said, "Despite various propaganda, conspiracies, and plots, BNP's popularity in surveys is around 54 to 56 percent. And the Prime Minister's personal popularity is even higher at 65 to 66 percent."
"If a party works in the interest of the people, and for the people, that party's government will never fail. That government remains engaged as a people-oriented social government," Rizvi added.
