DHAKA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS)- A man was arrested for allegedly creating fake Facebook accounts using the names and photos of members of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s family and two of his officials.
The CT-Cyber Crime Investigation Division’s E-Fraud Investigation Team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested the man during a drive in the capital’s Khilkhet area on Sunday, said PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.
The arrestee was identified as Kakon Rana, 35.
Citing police, he said Kakon had allegedly opened fake Facebook accounts using the names and photos of members of the Prime Minister’s family, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman and Personal Assistant Abdur Rahman Suny.
He allegedly used the fake accounts to spread false and fabricated information, tarnishing the reputation of the individuals concerned.
Police also said he had created multiple accounts and pages using the names of many other people.
Following a complaint, the E-Fraud Investigation Team analysed information related to the fake accounts and conducted a drive in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Police also seized a mobile phone and other evidence from his possession.
A case was filed against him with Banani Police Station under the Cyber Security Act. Police have sought a seven-day remand to interrogate him.
