KHULNA, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has intensified its anti-dengue campaign, launching enhanced cleanliness and mosquito-control operations alongside free medical camps to protect city residents from the growing threat of dengue.

As part of the campaign, KCC is conducting public awareness activities, cleaning drains, sewers and canals, carrying out fogging to kill adult mosquitoes and applying larvicide to breeding sites.

A special "crash programme" has also been launched to further strengthen mosquito-control activities across the city.

Under the initiative, free medical camps have been set up near the homes of low-income families to ensure easy access to healthcare. Men, women and children suffering from dengue and other types of fever will receive free primary treatment at the camps.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju said the corporation had undertaken extensive preventive measures in line with government directives. 

He made the remarks while inaugurating a free medical camp at Sonadanga Abu Bakkar Khan Adarsha (Registered) Primary School today.

"We want to keep city residents safe and healthy," he said, noting that the World Health Organization had warned around three months ago of a possible significant rise in dengue infections in Bangladesh.

Later, the KCC administrator inspected medical camps at Haji Abu Hanif Madrasah and Orphanage in the Rupsha embankment area and Tutpara Taltala Matri Sadan Hospital. He spoke with patients and urged residents to seek free treatment if any family member develops a fever.

Manju said KCC had divided the city into red, orange and yellow zones based on the prevalence of dengue infections in different areas.

As part of the crash programme, mobile courts led by executive magistrates are operating in designated areas. Fines are being imposed when unclean surroundings or Aedes mosquito breeding grounds are found, while house owners are also being warned to maintain clean premises.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammul Islam and social worker Sadizur Rahman Sabuj, among others, were present at the inauguration of the medical camps.

Meanwhile, Nazrul Islam Manju inaugurated an information service centre of Peerless Hospital Kolkata at Aziz Chamber on Ahsan Ahmed Road in Khulna around noon today.

Khulna District Council Administrator SM Monirul Hasan Bappi and Peerless Hospital Group Marketing Head Indrajit Banerjee attended the event as special guests.

Speakers said the centre would enable patients in Khulna to obtain information and assistance locally before travelling to Kolkata for treatment.

The services will include advance appointments with doctors, medical consultations, estimated treatment costs, and information and assistance related to visas, they said.
