BAGERHAT, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A cultural competition marking the Nazrul Year 2026 was inaugurated in Mollahat here today, with participation of students from educational institutions across the upazila.

Discussion on the life and works of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam marked the inaugural ceremony at the Upazila Parishad auditorium at 10:30 am.

The upazila administration hosted the competition. 

Upazila BNP General Secretary Md. Harun Al Rashid, Jamaat Secretary Hafez Md. Hedayet Ullah and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Mofizur Rahman spoke at the discussion, with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sumona Irin in the chair. 

Upazila Primary Education Officer Subrata Saha, Government Wazed Memorial Model Secondary School Headmaster S. M. Farid Ahmed, Charkulia Women's Secondary School President Mashiur Rahman, Press Club Mollahat General Secretary M. M. Mofizur Rahman, among others, spoke at the programme.

They shed light on various aspects of literature, music and creativity of Kazi Nazrul Islam, urging to spread Nazrul's non-communal spirit, humanity and patriotism among the new generation.

Later, various cultural competitions were held with the participation of students.
